I use the free version of Avast as my Virus protection. After running the
program it usually lists about 120 files and next to the file it states
"unable to scan, archive is password protected." How do I get to these
archived files. Thanks.

Karen;
The answer depends a lot on what type and where the archive is located.
If System Volume Information (System Restore), you need to turn Off/On
System Restore to delete all Restore Points or use the Disk Cleanup Other
Options to delete all but the last Restore Point.
You may need to Take Ownership if another type of file, #9 on this link:

You haver to be more specific of WHAT files Avast is "unable to scan, archive is
password protected."
Please post some examples of the fully qualified name and path to those files.
One example where this may occur is with anti malware applications. They often
quarantine removed malware into password protected archives. This is in case
they are falsely declared malware and can thusly be restored. They are protected
files to mitigate possible accidental re-infection.

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Avast?!? Maybe it's just my opinion... but one of David's AV tests confirmed
my theory. AVG, BitDefender 8, and AntiVir > Avast. Go to the Download page
on my website: www.stopmalware.tk and click on one of those three links to
take you to the AV's home page. Personally, AVG is working amazing for my
laptop but the other two are supposeably just as good if not better.
