Does anyone know of a tool to erase Altnet? This is a remnant of the now
erased Kazza that was loaded in my granddaughters computer. I have tracked
down the registry items but they cannot be erased. I have looked at various
anti virus sites but thus far non have offered a removal tool. Both Spy Bot
and Spyware Terminator detect the item but cannot erase it. I have found a
complicated method of removal but am not confident in my ability to carry
out the instructions without making things worse. Any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Hello vameo,

Altnet Software Bundled with Kazaa. Installs a Browser Helper Object which
loads when IE started

If you are running SP2, open IE--->Tools--->Manage Add-ons, and uncheck any
BHO's that you don't recºgnize.

Altnet can be a real problem to remove as it messes with
the permissions in the registry. You have to change the
permissions so you can delete it manually.

Try these links and let us know if these helped.

http://www.spywareremove.com/removeAltnet.html

http://www.spywareremove.com/altnet.shtml

Also download CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com and remove all temporarily
junk.

Download/Install Lavasofts Adaware
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022-10399602.html?tag=list

After install upgrade Adaware definitions with "Check for updates".

- Restart in safe mode, press F8 during reboot just before Windows flag
screen appears.

- Scan with Lavasoft Adaware, choose "full scans".

Good luck

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

The following links will take you to vendors sites for Spy Ware / Ad
ware removal tools and also for Antivirus tools. After you install any
of these applications and update them, run them in SAFE MODE to allow
them to properly clean your system.

First, make sure that your Java is updated to the latest version:
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

These sites are for downloading Anti-Malware and Anti-Spyware tools, in
order that I would use them myself:

Dave Lipman's tools:

http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm

Secured2K's AntiPauper (download link/info at)

Rogue Fix - This removal tool is the property of Internet Inspiration

AdAwareSE can be found here:

SpyBot Search and Destroy can be found here:
