Description:General Windows Security Issue. Your system security may be
compromised. The specifics of the possible compromised item are listed in
the comments
section.

I had a rummage with Google to see what I could find out about this item,
and lots of people on the web seem to think that it's, in as many words, as
"false positive," and that this key was placed by security software so that
it can "get in there first."
I use the mvps hosts file, ewido, AVG a/v, ZA firewall, Windows
msas/Defender, Adware, Spybot 1.4, Cwshredder, ...and several others as well
!

regards, Richard

I think it won't hurt to remove it . Ad-Aware se really rarely displays
false-positives.
You can always restore it later by either Ad-Aware's options or System
Restore.

These two free scanners will help you have a second opinion of your malware
status

Ad-aware is just reporting a slight variation in the association of the REG file
extension.
It is a minor alteration and isn't a threat.

Since viruses such as the Swen Internet worm change certain files associations,
the Multi AV
Scanning Tool will set these known registry changes back to their default values
automatically.

Thanks again, ...I think I'll run multi-av on mine for extra peace of mind.

Do you know, when I ponder on the time that's been spent tweaking internet
security settings, and the manual security procedures that one adopts,
across time and changing software, ...during regular use of the internet -
it now and again crosses my mind that most "ordinary" peoples PC's must be
riddled with invasive data-tracking software / cookies etc. ...and worse !
I simply will not have it in my PC ! ...especially ever since one of the
major ad-servers admitted they were "...seeking to identify individual users
so that they could more accurately target them with advertising that they
would wish to receive..." LOL who are they kidding besides themsleves ?

The thing that bugs me most, and is the single most inconvenient aspect of
using IE6, is web sites, (that I unfortunately must use), whose domain name
keeps changing, as one progresses into the site. e.g. how many domain names
does ebay need for heavens sake ?

...I digress ... ... ... ...and even more annoyingly someone just
outbid me on a Toshiba 20WLT56 that I was bidding on for my retired Uncle !
:-(

regards, Richard
