AVG seems to be very good for virus protection, but I'm wondering if AdAware
is the best I can do (free) for spyware protection. Is there any other
program that works better? I'm assuming that AdAware is removing both
adware and spyware, and that they are the same thing? ~

I try to keep this short list of popular freeware programs up to
date. Experts say you should never have more than one full AV program
installed at a time, or it could cause potentially harmful conflicts.
I use all of these programs listed on all three of my home office PCs,
except for "avast," only because I was already using AVG, which seems
to work great. But you must keep these programs up to date. AVG does
it automatically by default, but most of these anti spy programs need
to be updated manually.

By the way, I found out about all these programs, and about other
more advanced programs, by subscribing to alt.privacy.spyware, where
real experts on the subject often read and post, like some do here on
m.p.s.v., as well.

You can use AVG's Anti-spyware (which was previous ewido
anti-malware<Grisoft acquired ewido>)
in companion with ad-aware and Spybot S&D for spyware protection.
AVG's Anti-spyware can also detect some trojans.
