You might like to give FreeOTFE a try (details in the sig below)?

CrossCrypt was going to support encrypted partitions, though I don't think
Stefan got round to it in the end...

Did you try http://www.truecrypt.org/forum/ with reports about this
error? I suppose a problem with your hardware or hardware drivers, BTW.
