Uploading over http isn't slow in particular. But, some people are running
ADSL -- that "A" stands for Asynchronous and denotes the fact that upload
and download speeds are not the same. Upload typically being much less than
download -- my service was 1.5Mpbs down and 384kps up, now is 3Mbps down and
812kps up. Doesn't matter if it's http or ftp, that's just the service.
Most people download more than they upload so it suits them ok.
Synchronous bandwidth is generally more expensive but many cable providers
give their connections as synchcronous.
