i was experimenting with Tor/Privoxy by sending myself
an email via yahoo mail.

but when i look at the headers of the mail i received,
it still shows my 'originating IP' as coming from my
internet provider.

however when i go to one of the many websites that shows
your IP, it does show a random IP (ie. not my ISP).

does yahoo have some magic trick that defeats Tor/Privoxy?

or what have i configured incorrectly ?

What have you configured correctly, is the correct question.

Your mail client (webmail or otherwise) did not use the Tor proxies to
send the e-mail.
