I have Windows XP SP2 installed, no router, just a simple DSL modem. I
have turned Windows FW off; however, ShieldsUp show all of my ports as
"stealth". How can that be? I have no other firewall installed and
have not yet installed my antivirus program. I'm quite confused.

What is your IP address? If it's 192.168.x.y then your DSL modem is
providing NAT and that's why you can't be reached directly.
