I had this problem twice with norton Internet security 2005:
1st time:
Go to the Anti spam tab, click "Anti Spam" and then "Turn off". That
fixed it. I never used it anyways, so I left it off.
2nd time:
An update screwed up the applications list.
Fixed it by going to "personal firewall" then "configure" then
"programs". I selected the programs one at a time and removed all of
them. After that I clicked "program scan" and it reconfigured all of
the programs. E-mail worked again.
Hope this helps,
-Nate
