Thanks for the replies.
The icon disapeared for a few days, and it's back again today.
I couldn't seem to find anything in the network properties that
mentioned it. Again, i'm using Windows 98SE.
Is it possible a virus or spyware could generate that icon? That's my
first concern. Scans didn't seem to find much.
I am using a wireless router at one location, and a wired router at a
different location.
What concerns me the most is i've been working this way for at least 6
months with those 2 locations, and why did this thing apear all of a
sudden?
I looked at your web site, but didn't really see Windows 98
instructions how this thing is installed, only for XP. Can you
explain for 98?

I've removed a lot of spyware and viruses from my clients' computers,
but I've never seen them create an Internet Gateway.
Does the Internet Gateway look and act like I describe in my web page?
If so, it's normal.
If you don't want to see the Internet Gateway in Windows 98, you can
remove it: go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup |
Communications, and un-check "Universal Plug and Play".

I think he has a vendor related executable that communicates to to the wireless
Router for
status information.

Is there any chance that I will loose my Belkin wireless adapter
connection or my Netgear wired connection from removing this?
As long as I know why it is there, it doesn't really bother me. Not
knowing does.

Removing Universal Plug & Play will only remove the Internet Gateway.
It will have no other effect on network and Internet access.
