Most systems will allow you to program your own report codes. Check the
programming manuals for Ademco/Honeywell, Napco, DSC, etc.

Which I'm sure the central station operator sitting behind his console
five states away will be able to see...

why would they have to see it. the tech would go to the premise to fix the
problem and would look at the panel to see which one had the low battery
lite, then he would replace the battery. I have never seen or heard of a
cs op on an onsite service call before, have you?

Nope. But with five systems all sharing the same account number
scattered over a campus of say 10 acres, wouldn't it be better to send
the technician to the correct building on the first go (rather than
having him drive around looking for the one with the "trouble light")?
