I had a Hayes 1200 modem get fried by lightning and I can't seem to get
another one working. is there a particular serial number that I have to use.
The one I had working doesn't have volume control, but the other two I'm now
trying do. Is there another modem that may be compatible with DL900 and
Compass besides the Hayes that I could try.

I don't have it in front of me but that sounds like the serial # of the modem
that got fried. The other two have volume control and they have two circuit
boards inside. I've about pulled all my hair out with these two. When I hook
the modems up and try to use the software to dial a panel, the leds on the
front of the modem flash on and off like its receiving info from the computer
but there will always be some sort of error. Do you know what the switch
settings should be.

I don't know if you figured it out yet but at least for the DL900 on
the modems with the volume controls set the volume in the modem setup
to NA because the command hadn't been invented yet so it gives an
error.
