If it's the box I think you've got, it has a wind up mechanism that
transmits pulses to a receiver at the fire station (and is worth it's weight
in gold to a collector). You're going to have to figure out a way of
replacing all this with a set of normally open contacts which you can
supervise through your equipment. It's do-able, but my first question is:
Why? My second question is: Who's going to "accept" any modifications you
propose doing (and can you get that acceptance in writing to cover your
ass)?

Regards,
Frank
(No, not that "Frank". The other one).

What you need is called a shunt master box. It's a regular Gamewell fire
alarm box that is designed to be operated by a normally closed relay
contact in a fire alarm panel. I don't know whether it's possible to get
the parts necessary to convert a regular box into a master box. You may be
able to find a master box on eBay and swap code wheels with the existing
box.

Before you try setting up the electrical connection, make sure the box
transmits signals when activated manually. Then it's just a matter of
making your relay trip the box. The Vista panel has a relay that can be
programmed to operate on alarm. Just hook it to the master box, and you're
done.

It would be a serious crime to alter or tamper with what is truly a
collector's item. This sucker will fetch big bucks on eBay in its
untouched, original state. I'd suggest replacing it with a newer
Gamewell box (one that has the relays you require to hook up to your
communicator), and either mounting the original in your rec-room or
selling it on eBay. You'd be way ahead either way, Nick! Good luck!!
