I am using Octanews on port 563 with Opera browser and the TLS box
checked, theoretically
everything should be encrypted and there is no need to use Stunnel.

How can I check/make sure that the connexion is really encrypted?

I am on a home internet connexion (no network).

You'll want to use a good packet sniffer (ahem! excuse me: network protocol
analyzer). Ethereal (now Wireshark) is the gold standard but has a steep
learning curve. It's worth mastering, however, since you'll find lots of
uses for it as you advance in geekiness :-)

Regards,
