Any idea what kind of encryption was used?

No clue. A guy posted this on a forum and wants us to try to crack it. He
said that he created his own encryption program. I will ask him and see if
he can shed some light as to what method he used.

You might get more interest in a newsgroup focused on
encryption rather than a security one.

And if he won't say, then what's the point. For a crypto system to be
any good, then the cipher text has to be able to hold up even if the
attacker knows the system used to create it. Otherwise it's nothing
more than "security through obscurity."

Try Sci.crypt In fact, there was a recent thread there started by a guy
who claimed to have created his own system. "Shuffle Prime" or
something like that. His description was proclaimed (by folks who know
much more than me) to be based on an old, broken, idea. Maybe he's
posting a ciphertext to try and "prove" his system works. Useless idea.
