Browser cant see the internet Pascual 09-06-2006

I have Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 7 installed in my computer, the
broadband connexion
is working when I use it for newsgroups, IRC, or any other thing. I can
ping anywhere I want,
but when I try to browse the internet with any of the browsers I have it
always gives me a
page not found.

I have checked the internet connexion settings in both browsers to see
that no proxy is used, have
it set up to "Direct connexion", I have changed nothing and it always has
worked.

And now to make things more confusing when I browse the internet with a
browser that runs from inside
an USB stick and it works fine.

I have run the antivirus (Avira) which misteriously had been disabled,
haven't got a clue how...
It has picked up two trojans which are now deleted, yes I know I should
have researched them before
deletion but I didn't, but I still can't get the browsers to work, I would
like to find a solution
that forces me to make clean install as this is time consuming.

Is that possible?

Try uninstalling and re-installing the browser and see if it works then,
you might have deleted a file or two that it needs.

He needs to reinstall anyway, as his system was compromised.

More of your typically misleading, dangerous advice. :(

You're telling someone with a known compromised machine to treat the
symptoms and just plod along as though nothing has happened. It's very
likely that with two trojans and a disabled AV someone has zombified
his box, and he needs to immediately disconnect, wipe, and rebuild.

But your solution is to reinstall Firefox/IE.

You're an idiot.
