I am working through anti-virus programs trying to find one that works
for me.

I have two requirements that have caused problems: it must work with my
Windows black background color scheme and with Windows font
magnification.

I have discovered that when you turn graphics off, nod32 uses standard
windows controls in a standard manner and it meets both requirements.

I have to give nod32 a star.

However, I did find a few quirks in windows control mode. When you
click on an item in the control center, it opens another movable window
for the item selected. You hit escape to close that window and
discover you have closed the control center dialog box. You close the
windows by clicking a hide box.

You can't resize most of these windows, but you can some. The program
seems to remember control center window locations. That is good.

Why don't people reviewing anti-virus programs mentions interface
elements like this?

I also discovered that the scan dialog cuts of the command buttons at
the bottom and whoever set the maximum dialog box size didn't make it
big enough.

Depends on the basis for the review. Some reviews focus solely on detection,
cleaning and accuracy. Some include the aforementioned and user preferences,
like scan speed and GUI. The purists are likely to be concerned more with
the purpose of the program (detection, cleaning, accuracy of results) and
less on user preferences. Personally, I think NOD32 needs a lot of work on
its interface, update options and menu layout, but I didn't buy a license
for those features.
