what are the reasons/motivations for producing virus, malware, daware,
spyware etc.?

Socially, who are the people doing this?

Are there any statistics/ researches?

Depends...

Bragging rights
Monetary gains
Malicious intent

Take for example a Dialing Trojan that calls on Toll Call offshore.

Take a Keylogger Trojan. It may capture you Credit Card number, username and
password.
