Hi Group,
All of a sudden this problem has rolled in,
When i try to save a file or save as,
and i click on drop down menu to select the folder/drive.
It hangs and takes 30 seconds so to do that,
and after i select the drive/folder, it will again take good time
to display its contents, this is been happening with ONLY save/save as
window in
Windows XP home.
i have 1 drive C of 80 GB memory.
Any suggestions ?
Sandy.

80 gb of memory??? Maybe you have an 80 gig hard drive.

Several things could be causing your problem. Possibly a virus or spyware,
possibly a dearth of RAM which would cause the program to use the swap file
excessively.

Do Start > Settings > Control Panel and double click the System icon. Look
on the General tab and see how much RAM you have. 256 mb is barely
adequate for XP, 512 mb is much better.

Hi Ernie,
Thanks for your help.
Yes, its 80GB Hard Drive.
Well i have 512 MB RAM,
But what i did additional few days back, is, i increased virtual memory
to 2000 MB - 3000 MB
Can that be a problem?
Also, i have a pirated Norton Antivirus 2005, that is fully functional
and updated.
Is it OK to have a pirated software of Norton,
OR to have best performance we must buy a licenced software from market.

No -- It NOT OK to have pirated software. Many pirated software contain Trojans
and it
certainly is wrong to pirate software.

Also, I wouldn't suggest having such a large VM size. It should be the size of
the physical
RAM and if you need more, then I suggest buying and installing more physical RAM.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go
through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal
Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the
PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you
can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded
the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode
[F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run
in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive
PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your support,
I have done it,
But i wonder why the companies like Trend and McCafee let us use their
definitions using a software like AV for free?
