Spybot - Registry changes? Terry Pinnell 12-03-2005

Instead of just showing the familiar simple list of a few
viruses/tracking cookies/possible trojans/etc in its list of Critical
Objects, Spybot has now started reporting a whole kluge of stuff about
Registry changes. They have no checkmark against them, so what are
they supposed to be telling me? Most appear to be basic configuration
details in dozens of applications, such as 'Recently used file;, 'Last
opened browser', etc.

How long has this change been in place please? IMO, it's a backward
step.

They are saying your registry has been changed to improper settings
and showing you what they should be.

Chech your firewall here as a first step (shields up test):
http://www.grc.com

If your AV program detects any trojans you will have to remove them
before you change the registry back to the right settings.

The above would apply to those listings which are not corrected when
you choose to remove them. If you are working with XP and you get a
"Security Center" listing, that is a red flag that your firewall is
most likely disabled.

These are records of your browsing and can be deleted.

Thanks for the replies. I discovered that the advanced setting 'Usage
Tracks' had somehow become enabled. That accounts for most of those
200 or so entries. Harmless enough, but I don't like the clutter so
have disabled that option again. Puzzling how it set itself on after
several years. Maybe the latest revision makes it a default?

I would think - yes - since it does in version 1.3.
The latest version is 1.4
