I live in a rural area and make use of an extremely slow and expensive
dial up connection. Presently I use AVG Free edition anti virus, however
due to the size of the updates, I struggle to keep my software up to
date. Do any of the other freeware AV have smaller sized updates? Any
suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Suzie.

*Avast* www.avast.com is a good free antivirus (require free
registration for obtaining serial number and 14 months user-license)
that has incremental updates very smaller (10-20 KB many times) it
download only new definitions not whole database each time like AVG and
ANTIVIR.

download avast and have a fun!

I agree. I have the free for non-commerical use Avast Home edition &
the updates are very small.

The only time that you get a large download is when it updates the scan
engine but it is usually just about 1 MB+ for the scan engine updates.

The thing which I like about Avast is the automatic update which will
connect to the Avast server when it detects that your online to see if
an update is avaliable, if one is, it gets downloaded.

My AVG updates are virtually always "small".
Examples: 10k, 4.4k, 200k
Occasionally there will be a 1-2 Meg update or
an program upgrade of 3 Megs or so.
I don't know why yours would be otherwise.
