Hello ...

Using Win98 SE

After "Terminating" instant messenger and a few other "resident
providers" and pressing "Yes" to persist the changes, they don't
persist, but re-appear as active providers after the system is
rebooted.

How can I make them non-persist permanently?

TIA

Try Avast's 4.x forum if you don't get a solution here:

Thank you Jay ... didn't know there was such a fourm ...

Just went there and found the answer to my question in a few minutes.
Nice of Avast to provide the forum and the techs who answer.

The solution was to shut down Avast by right-clicking the icon and
choosing 'Stop-On Access Protection," then closing Windows and
rebooting. The difficulty evidently is caused by Windows shutting
down Avast before the changes are saved.

Thanks again ...

Sophia

You're quite welcome. Glad your changes now "stick." The Avast forums
are excellent as you found out.
