I have the Hacktool.Proxy trojan on my Windows XP Home Edition PC. I
upgraded my Norton Anti-Virus to NAV 2007 from 2004. I ran LiveUpdate
to get the latest version of the anit-virus files and it will not
detect, much less remove this virus.

I know I still have the virus because the pop-up window in NAV tells me
it blocked it from using the internet. The log files in NAV tells me
what directory the virus is executed from. I used a bootable CD
borrowed from a friend and removed the directory but it didn't fix the
problem.

Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks!

Again, I don't know why there are so many supporters of XP out there
when crap like can happen. The OS is too damn complex and too damn
self-monitoring for it's own good.

If modern AV software can't remove malware like this, what hope is
there for Vista?

You post conflicting information.

In one paragraph you state you have the "Hacktool.Proxy trojan" and then state
NAV doesn't
detect or remove it but in the next paragraph state NAV (the FireWall ?) blocked
it from
accinf the Internet.

Please provide facts. How you knowe EXACTLY you have the "Hacktool.Proxy
trojan" and what
the NAV FireWall log shows. Also what other tools and applications you have
used to
mitigate this threat.

Dave,

I should have stated that when running a scan with NAV it doesn't
detect the trojan, but while connected to the internet, I get a message
from NAV saying it blocked Hacktool.Proxy from connecting to the
internet.

How I know EXACTLY I have this trojan is that I use the log files in
NAV to tell me which directory the code was executed from. I went to
this "hidden" and supposedly "empty" directory and used NAV to do a
scan of the directory and it scanned two files, even though I cannot
see the files with explorer.

Thanks for the webpage info, I'll get started eliminating this trojan!

David
