Here's one for $7.99US/mo that has retention out the ying-yang! For both
binary and text groups. Best out there, I think.

That is the one that Rogers was/is using. It is $9.95 Cdn/mo. They are
steering us all to that one.

Thanks....Heather

some people don't like google groups and/or find that conventional
usenet usage is difficult with google groups... i seem to recall
threaded view is not the default and there may be some issues with quote
placement (although some folks aren't always careful about that to begin
with)...

searched my bookmarks and came up with this
http://www.disenter.com/index.php

and of course there's always google

not to my knowledge, but i really don't pay much attention to email from
sympatico - it always seems to be some kind of advertisement for
new/better services...

it kinda doesn't surprise me that rogers would get rid of it, though...
it is old technology and most of the internet users today seem to prefer
web forums (never mind the fact that usenet is superior to web forums)...

Many thanks Kurt.....I am trying to access via that free one, but I think
Rogers is stopping it. I will try again in the morning.

Hmm, here it is almost 2 hours past the deadline and I am still on Usenet.
I read a lot of the complaints on Google and there seems to be some cheaper
ISP's. But changing my ISP is not high on my list...too many hassles.

Web Forums.....ptui!! I have to moderate one connected with a Genealogy
List I run and I detest them. I usually tell the person asking the question
to join my List. (G)

Night.....Heather

individual.net

http://news.individual.net/

Registration required. Price 10 euros a year. No binaries. No sex
groups. No nonsense. This is a very dependable
server for text.

newsgate. xprivat.org

http://www.x-privat.org/international.php

Registration required. Price 6 Euros a year. Text and some binaries.
This server is faster than individual.net but may
lack some groups. Its binary completion should not be depended upon.

sunsite.dk

http://dotsrc.org/usenet/

Free text only, registration required. This server now only carries the
comp groups.

news.aioe

http://news.aioe.org/

No registration required. Free server. Text only and it is slow as
molasses. You get what you pay for. Limit of 25 posts
per day.

If you want the level of service that comes with a paid service I would
recommend Octanews.
