having a lot of trouble installing on win xp home system. Essentially it
installs but then the configuration manager does not work and stays on the
first screen. Have followed many of the suggestions on Symantec website
including several uninstalls and reinstalls. I have no viruses - as checked
with another software. The update manager works ok - when installed
separately

Anyone else with this issue and can advise what todo

It's a pile of crap. Uninstall it, clean up the mess and install something
reliable like F-Prot or others recommended here.

About the only 'helpful' info you usually get in this ng concerning Norton is
to uninstall it and use something else. It's a very well informed group and also
a very biased group, overall. (most bias through hearsay or a bad experience
within the last 5 yrs) :-)
Go to the Symantec site and possibly find answers there.
One of the biggest problems with a very invasive program install is that
UNNECESSARY programs are running during its install and during its uninstall.
Hopefully another member will be able to help you out.

I've had a similar problem when trying to install NAV 2005 to see what it
was like. I tried all sorts of things including following various Symantec
support articles. Suffice to say it didn't fare well in my anti-virus
testing day.

I gave up. If you've purchased it you might be better off getting a refund.
I'm seriously considering installing NOD32 when my current NAV subscription
runs out, as once again Symantec are (will be) *days* late releasing
definitions for a virus I got in an email, where NOD32 detected it
heuristically, and I believe, by definition. Their software seems to get
bigger, slower (even on high-end machines) and buggier with every single
release.

Sorry I can't offer more constructive advice. (I suppose in a way I have!)

Cheers

i have used AVG successfully but might try out mcafee, not sure yet. I am
amazed since the installs have gone well on another computer - using a
second copy I purchased.
