I just picked up a brochure on MS's "Windows Live OneCare" at Best Buy- it
contains an AV, A-Spyware, Firewall, backup, etc.

Any comments? I suppose it won't compare well with MacAfee or Norton- but
I'm just curious if anyone here has checked it out.

Junk.

Get anti virus from a well known anti virus company.
Microsoft's so-called anti virus offereing is one of the worst in the industry.

Is this history repeating itself - didn't MS do this before?

Maybe. I do remember MSAV which was an OEM version of Central Point Anti Virus
(CPAV) which
was eventually bought by Norton and became the core engine of Norton Anti Virus.

The use of MSAV was short lived.

In this case, Microsoft bought RAV and it is believed that this is the core of
Microsoft's
so-called anti virus solution.

I suggest an anti virus that actually works like Kaspersky or NOD32. NOD32
is kind of expensive though. Check out ebay!
