Hi...,

I suddenly get the following message: "Warning : Your computer may be
infected with spyware"

Do anybody know how I can remove this programm from my computer?
I tried to install again Windows, but it wasnīt possible. As I put in the cd
with windows an switched on the computer to install the operating system
first the system tried to boot from the cd but than it stopped. So itīs not
possible to remove all this spy-shit from the system.

Who can help me?

I have Windows XP home.

Uwe

Uwe,

Their is a lot of advertising pop-up or pop-unders that are only
advertising. Where did the message arrive from, as Duane asked?

Was it from your anti-viral software package?
Was it a floating box that appeared after being on the internet?
Was it from a scanner?
Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

SpyBot Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Microsoft anti spyware software - 4 XP
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

As Duane suggests, download these programs, run them. You can always
run ad-aware & Spybot Search and Destroy when your computer is in safe
mode if they do not clean your computer. All of the list are good
products, and should be run weekly, or when paranoia prowls your brow.

Question what anti-vial software package are you running and are you
able to up-date it daily? Remember a teaser 2 month anti-viral package
was activated when the computer was new.

Reinstalling windows, is a last ditch effort. It is something that
should not be required under most situations. If you are living the
propeller heads life then you would be better informed and know what
cuts and what does not cut.

Try panda or trend's on-line scans -

Uwe please let the group know after you have done the above... if you
need more assistance or that has fixed your system. Remember we have
all done what you did, or something similar when we were in a panic
with our computers.

JR the postman

I think you could have reasoned something better than what you did to start
bombing/reinstalling the O/S because of some warning message.

There are tools lie AD-Aware and Spy-bot Search and Destroy both are free
that you can use to remove spyware, instead of reinstalling the O/S.

If a message was displayed to you that the *Cow jumped over the Moon and
it's spyware* would you be so inclined to reinstall the O/S. ;-)

If you receive a Pop-Up out of the blue such as you described it is a Social
Engineering
"trick" to get you to install some software that is REALY malware. You can
believe only
software that you installed and is is known not to be a rogue anti spyware or
anti virus
application.

As Duane indicate Ad-aware SE v1.06 and SpyBot Search and Destroy are known
"good" anti
spyware applications.

Anything listed on the below Syware Warrior URL as a Rogue should be avoided.
