I've always liked Trend products. I've just upgraded to Trend
PC-Cillin Internet Security 2006 on my laptop and I see they talk
about searching for "Malware".

Do they mean the kind of crap that Ad-Aware and Spybot find ?

If so, how good is it and how does it compare to the free versions of
the other tools?

It hasn't found anything on my machine but I have so many layers of
protection on my won machines that this isn't a suprise. Spyware
scans rarely find anything but cookies, which don't bother me.

I like it. I use Trend's Office Scan Corporate Edition product and love it.

I've installed the PC-cillin Trend product on a number of client's computers
and have not had complaints or incidents to speak of. I suppose there is not
one-size-fits-all, but I think Trend does as good a job as most.

Per Frankster:

OTOH, I dumped PC-Cillin in favor of Avast! - and am a happier camper for it.

My grips with Trend:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Lack of support. At first it was just inane - with excessive meaningless
boilerplate - to the extent that for awhile I wasn't sure whether I was
corresponding with a person or a machine. Then it became non-existent
as I was unable to get any replies at all on my last problem.

2) The notification system when something outside is trying to get to your
PC is interruptive. If you have a Trojan or whatever that is sending
out several invitations per second, you have to pull the internet plug
before you can use the PC. Been there...

Have used it since the late 90's. Have had no problems. Pretty
straight forward. Easier than Norton or MacAfee. Uses less system
resources. Switched clients to it and they have been happy.
