A month ago, after my sunscription to Comp Associates EZ-AntiVirus ran
out, I decided to try one of the free AV programs on the net - I chose
AntiVir. After uninstalling EZ I downloaded & installed AntiVir 6 without a
hitch one Saturday morning.
However, they now have a new version of the program - Version 7 - the
update & install froze my Dell 4300 PC!
If you're going to continue using AntiVir - do not do your usual
update - since this will install the program. According to the website, the
current d/l will uninstall Ver 6; reboot; and then install Ver 7. I just
did my usual update, not visiting the site first - how did I know that a new
program version was being offered? This froze my PC, taking up most of
Tuesday night to get fixed.
Anyway, here's what you have to do:
1) Remove Version 6 using the unistall feature.
2) You must edit the Registry before d/l Version 7! Else when you d/l
the program will tell you that a part of Ver 6 is on your PC; but not where
it is!
Go to Regedit.exe> Local Machine> and remove the H+BEDV folder ONLY!
3) Now you can reboot; go to their site www.free-av.com & d/l the
program.
You can find info about this in their Forum page.

Do you really mean version 6, or the 7 BETA? If the latter, you *must*
uninstall, else all things may happen.
Also, H+BEDV is now Avira. Maybe this is the cause of this mayhem.

Ah, Information. A property, too valuable these days, to give it away,
just so, at no cost.
