If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
Does AVG Free scan newsgroups (NNTP)? And if so, is it enabled by
default? I could not see any reference to this in the E-mail Scanner
settings.

AFAIK, AVG Free doesn't deal with NNTP.

A while back, something in a newsgroup posting infected my computer. That's
when I stopped using Outlook Express. I switched to xnews
(http://xnews.newsguy.com/). Since then, there have been no problems.
