One of the bone of contentions with the AVG 8 release by grisoft, is the
massive resource hog, their predecessor software avg 7.5 was an excellent
anti virus, good database, lite on resources and does exactly what it says.

AVG 8 tried to be many different programs in one, including spyware scanning
into the database. Unfortunately it turned an older machine with a low spec
(512mb or less, and p4 2.5ghz or less) into a treacle fest.

Their newer release however, if you choose custom install allows the user to
prevent installation of toolbar, safe search and web link scanner (?), as
well as disable the unnecessary email scanning facility.

Avg 8 when installed as above, is actually not to bad at all.... Well done
grisoft for recognising how crap their software was...
