I get a similar problem; it downloads the update, appears to apply it
and either right then or the next time I try to update I get a message
that says something along the lines of "Previous update not
successful, unable to initiate update module, reinstall the damn app."
(slightly paraphrased).
So I reinstall, but after a few updates the problem comes back.
So far only on one machine, though...
